5 Interior trends for 2018

I love researching Interiors my head is spinning with all the ideas and trends that are ready to explode this year. Here's a small list of what you will see, in no particular order but I have to say that the first one is so important.

1. Show stopping front doors.

The most important feature to anyone's house or property I believe is the front door. It is the mouth of the home. What you see when knocking on someone's front door is your first impression. So make it a lasting impression. Your front door can reflect your style and how it flows throughout the rest of your home. So take pride in the appearance and make it a door to be proud of.

2. Velvet and Leather

I love velvet, not just the texture but the appearance of how it changes colour it can look light in one direction and dark in another. So Velvet is going to be big. Along with leather which is a great mix  especially when adding a cushion here and there.

Another twist which I am very keen on doing myself once our house is done is to have a  mixture of leather furniture and velvet.

I would go for a velvet three seater and two tan leather armchairs, well I call it toffee tan leather.

3. Terrazzo

Terrazzo, what do you think ?

A step back to the 50's and 60's Terrazzo is made up of Glass, Granite, Marble and Quartz and was commonly used for flooring. A little history lesson on this beautiful flooring, it was the Venetian workers that started to use the waste from marble remnants that came up with Terrazzo  (Italian name for Terraces). If you are lucky enough to own a mid-century home in the USA then its more than likely that you have a hidden surprise under the carpet.

It was used widely across the states in the 50's and 60's and then when the mid 70's arrived it was shag pile carpet all the way so that is the surprise you would get if pulling up your shag pile.

So what a lovely finish to give your shower/ bathroom.

4. Maximalism.

Are you wondering what this means?

2018 interiors are going to be full of soft furnishings, mixtures of fabrics, patterns and textures, art, classy ornaments, what some of you may class as clutter.

Styled in the correct way though can be another show stopper for 2018 and really show off your individual style. Be brave and bold and keep adding more and do not be nervous about mixing patterns, Floral v Geometric.

5. Colourful Kitchens

White kitchens will always be a classic, however out with the Whites and Creams and in with the colour, Wood either completely natural or painted but in a matt/satin finish. I also think that more accessories are going to be added to kitchens like the image above (the wall light). More shelving rather than cupboards everywhere. I did a blog on that not long ago when sitting in the salon browsing through interior magazines. So here they are the trends for 2018 love them or hate them, I LOVE THEM ALL !
