For children, the bedroom is a haven and to a large extent, its ambience affects their sleep quality, which affects their development. Therefore, it is vital to ensure that your child’s room consists of the correct elements to create a cosy, safe, and healthy space. Are you unsure of where to start? Here are a few ways to create a cosier bedroom space for your children.

Get the right mattress

Sleeping on a bad mattress is uncomfortable and affects the quality of sleep. When selecting a mattress for your child, you must consider getting one that would provide comfort and adequate support and cushioning to enable them to sleep soundly. You should also consider factors such as your child’s height and weight and sleeping position to ensure you purchase the right mattress. You can make it cosier by incorporating other elements your child is interested in.

Suppose your child loves video games. In that case, gaming beds are an excellent idea to create a fun, easygoing, and comfortable space. Lets face it our future generation are extremely talented when it comes to technology on all counts!

Consider the lighting

Another element that contributes to the cosiness of your child’s room is the lighting. Be sure to install the bedroom windows strategically to allow for natural light during the day to encourage a happier mood and warmth. It would be best if you considered installing dimmer switches and other additions such as bedside lamps. Installing poor lighting such as yellow or blue-white light may cause anxiety and stress in your children. It is advisable to consider choosing full-spectrum light bulbs instead of fluorescent or spiral bulbs.

Incorporate colour psychology

Colour plays a significant role in how you feel. Therefore, to create a comfortable and cosy bedroom space for your children, you should consider incorporating colours that induce this ambience. Although bright colours such as red and hot pink may perk a child’s attention, these colours are too bold to create a calming effect. Instead, focus on colours such as lavender, sky blue, beige, or pale green. Be sure that the colours available in the room harmonise effectively to promote cosiness. It would help if you also avoided busy patterns on the bedding, walls, or rugs, as this may prevent your child from feeling relaxed and cosy.

Limit sensory stimulation

A cluttered and messy room affects your child’s sleep pattern and overloads their sensory stimulation causing anxiety and discomfort. Therefore, it is vital to reduce sensory stimulation by ensuring that the bedroom satisfies one need - to provide a space for sleep.  You can achieve this by keeping toys, books, and clothes stored away in cupboards, baskets, or boxes. It would be best to consider alternative means of creating a child-friendly space, such as creating a little tent in the corner of the room or a relaxing bean bag. You should consider limiting the screen time your children receive before bed as this eliminates the risk of sleep being distracted and brain-stimulating blue light emissions
