How I got rid of my painful periods

So throughout my whole life from the day I started my period. I have never had an issue. They have always been regular, and they actually still are but this is a massive BUT now I seemed to have the most horrendous period every month. They are heavy and extremely painful usually day two is the worst.

I would take the usual Ibroprufen which never worked, hold a hot water bottle to my tummy, and sometimes go back to bed and lay down in the Fetal position. Absolutely no good for someone that is working, something had to change.

The hideous periods started when I hit perimenopause at the age of 45. It came out of nowhere a bit like my other symptoms. I decided to go onto HRT, I use the patches this helps with the feeling of anxiousness that I was getting, and for no reason. I would sit there worrying and feeling awful thinking of the worst-case scenario on absolutely anything. So ended up trying to train my brain in a way that tells me every time I was feeling like this that it was only my hormones and there was no meaning or reason I should be worrying. There were times I couldn’t even put my finger on why I was worrying or feeling edgy. You know in yourself that there should be something that triggers it like, Money problems, work, all the usual shit but in my case, there wasn’t and still isn’t anything apart from my fluctuating hormones. Which I now feel are getting under control. So this then led me to supplements. My friend started sharing something about a company called Doctor Seaweed and living near the sea it started to gain my interest and of course, I’m all for taking natural supplements. This journey started when I received my first lot of Pure Seaweed along with three of their other Seaweed supplements. I started on the Pure Seaweed and Focus+ I took these for a whole month pretty much after another painful period and alongside my usual Magnesium, Vitamin B Complex, and Vitamin D. I then waited for my next dreaded period which arrived and got to day two the worst part usually and I had no pain? my period was lighter, it took me a few minutes to work out that I hadn’t done anything differently with my diet, etc but the one massive thing I had added to my diet was the Pure Natural Seaweed within the supplements! I just couldn’t believe it, so I contacted the company and said if this was actually possible or if its a fluke, and what she told me was something that I have learned about in my Menopause training but didn’t put two and two together. I have learned what supplements we should be taking and what we lack and what the effects are when we are lacking in particular vitamins and minerals. So let me explain a little easier just how it was explained to me.

There is research on how iodine (the key nutrient within our seaweed) is beneficial for the menstrual cycle when it comes to irregular periods and some of the painful symptoms associated with dysmenorrhea/endometriosis/PCOS.

This is because iodine deficiency can cause hormonal imbalances that are then connected to the ovaries which can be the cause of painful or irregular periods - there are of course other factors but this nutritional deficiency can be commonly overlooked. Doctor Seaweed hasn't conducted their own university-led research on this yet (they hope to one day) which is why it's not a health claim they have on the pack, but they have looked into other published journals on the topic.

To me, this is extremely helpful especially when I haven’t suffered in the past.
